Domaine de l'Arlot: news on the '14 vintage and change in winemaker

© Domaine de l’ArlotBelow we reprise Domaine de l’Arlot’s 2014 initial vintage report, written last week by Directeur Technique (wine director) Jacques Devauges. This report was one of Devauges’ last responsibilities at l’Arlot before he moves on at the end of this year. Jacques oversaw some wonderful wines in 2011, 2012 and the yet to be released 2013s, and there is little doubt his next appointment represents something a coup for another one of our esteemed Burgundy producers, Clos de Tart.

Domaine Weinbach: A short epitaph plus the latest releases from one of France's great white domaines

Following the tragic passing (this past May) of Domaine Weinbach’s winemaker, Laurence Faller, our first posthumous shipment was always going to bring up mixed emotions. On the one hand you can’t help but feel shattered for the Faller family who have lost, far too early, a very special lady; a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. On the other, the new wines offer the opportunity to once again savour, and celebrate, the work of one of the most gifted talents of Alsatian élevage.

Sydney Calling: Monday Trade day also open on Sunday 7th

Dear NSW trade friends,

You are probably aware that our annual trade tasting is coming up next Monday. If you missed our invitation, please find all the details below. Some of you may not be aware that on the preceding Sunday, 7th September, with the help of Sydney's finest independent retailers, we are hosting the exact same event as a public tasting called Vindependance. This tasting runs between 12-5pm (same venue, Four Seasons Hotel) and is also open to the trade—so if you can’t make the Monday gig, you still have to chance to taste all the wines on the Sunday

In Saint-Bris (Burgundy)—with the Crown Jewel of the Yonne Valley

Judging by the quizzical looks we often get, the locals of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux (on the edge of the Chablis A.O.C) aren’t quite yet accustomed to English speaking wine pilgrims like us, descending cap in hand on their village’s emblematic Domaine. It’s Guilhem Goisot’s stone-polished Chardonnay, intensely aromatic Pinot Noir and mineral Sauvignon (yes, Sauvignon grown in Burgundy) that drag us here. This biodynamic Domaine produces some of the most authentic wines of Burgundy, and also some of this region’s greatest values. Anne-Claude Leflaive once described Goisot as a “superstar”. Those who know the wines will not disagree.

The boys are back in town. Kick back Barossa-style with Kym Teusner and Michael Page at this exclusive and most righteous tasting. Headlining the gig will be a range of over 30 wines covering the gamut of Teusner’s new- and pre-releases, some tank samples as well as the full range of the rarely shown Righteous wines and the new 2010 single-vineyard Hutton Vale wines. Even by Teusner’s lofty standards, this is the best line-up we tasted from them. But let’s not forget that this Barossan block party ain’t only about the wine—we’re stoked  to have Burn City Smokers with their epic Texan barbeque and smoker on site

Dominio do Bibei: new arrivals from the sacred riverbank

Occasionally you have to journey to remote areas in order to reach some of Spain’s finest producers, but the long drive to Dominio do Bibei to meet winemaker Javier Dominguez and his team was certainly worth it. Javier came across as a deeply philosophical person with strong tenets about his wines, which exuded great purity and varietal expression, almost Burgundy-like in their tannin profile, but with a little more fruit intensity.” Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
