FIELD NOTES: SPAIN DAY 5 & 6 [GALICIA]

A photoblog from Rob's recent visit to Spain & Madeira

GALICIA; ADEGA ALGUEIRA, BODEGAS VALDESIL & QUINA DA MURADELLA

A quick snap from the roadside to try to capture the natural beauty that is a constant feature of Valdeorras and Galicia in general.

Another.

The vine nursery at Valdesil - massale selection from the Pedrouzos vineyard that is used for replants across all their vineyards. Makes sense that such practices exist here - the wines of Valdesil are Galicia's answer to top notch white Burgundy.

The Pedrouzos vineyard in Valdeorras. This is the oldest Godello vineyard in the world, planted in 1875, and source of some truly profound wines from Valdesil.

Many of the vines need a little help to support their trunks.

Quinta da Muradella's José Luis Mateo in the San Paio vineyard. 700mt. Field blend. Worked by donkey.

Sandy slate soils; unusual for the Monterrei.

Vineyard house.

You have to get past me first. The keeper of the cellar.
